| WELL ITS HEAR BONFIRE NITE PLEASE DO NT FORGET TO BRING ALL OUT DOOR PETS IN RABBITS EVEN DOGS THAT LIVE OUT SIDE THEY ALL GET SCARED AND RABBITS ARE DELICATE SO IT WILL ONLY TAKE 1 SHOCK AND U WONT HAVE A RABBIT KEEP CATS LOCKED IN ONE ROOM IF PEOPLE THAT HAVE DOGS THAT ARE REALLY SCARED LIKE MINE U CAN GET A SLEEPING TABLET FROM UR VET AS I HAVE TO DO IT EVERY YEAR FOR MY DOG ITS ONLY 1 NITE SO PLEASE THINK ABOUT THESE ANIMALS BRING THEM INDOORS THANKS | 06-11-2007 by KAY GARDNER
| We will be having fireworks up to the new year now with Diwhali celebrations too.
It might be an idea to make a hide out for you dog to go into, before deciding to get tablets from the vet. Also do not fuss your dog if it becomes a little anxcious as the body language will tell it there is something to be scared of. turn the TV up and ignore the fact. We have a very nervous whippet and we have a qualified dog behaviourist who says the same thing. Tablets as you know are the last resort.
If you are briging your rabbit or guinea pig in doors then it might be an idea to keep it in for the rest of the cold weather. It is not healthy to bring them into a very warm atmosphere to put them back out in the cold.
My rabbits and guinea pigs are in wooden sheds which are bubble wrapped for the winter around the wall to keep warmth in,the sheds are surrounded by a 6ft fence in the corner of th e garden, and they stay in there throughout the fireworks. They are given plenty of food to keep them occupied, layers of straw and the windows and hutches are covered at night over the firework period. They have learn't to ignore the noise as with the dog i donnot fuse them and go about normal routines.

| Obviously i do check on them regularly. The rabbits are always just bouncing around as normal and the guinea pigs are always munching on food and hay.
If you do decide to bring your pet indoors for the winter, make sure you donnot put it/them near radiators or heated elements as they with boil. Also no drafty hallways. a spare bedroom or study would be the best place. Invest in an indoor plastic based cage and put an old towel over one end for a hideout.put newspaper underneath to collect any shavings or mess. | 02-12-2007 by tony
